The Guildhall Team

Meet the incredible Guildhall team! Our dedicated small team is here to support you with your event every step of the way, from the initial planning to making sure that everything is taken care of on the day. Read on to get to know the friendly faces of the Guildhall.

General Manager Amanda

I oversee the day to day running of the Guildhall and manage events to ensure they run as smoothly as possible.

Without doubt, the thing that brings me back day after day is the people, from our wonderful Guildhall team and trusted suppliers to our clients and guests. No two events are ever the same and each brings it’s own atmosphere, characters and memories.

I had only been at the Guildhall for a few weeks when the annual Cake and Ale ceremony took place, seeing the ‘great & the good’ of Bury gathering to toast the portrait of Jankyn Smythe, was the moment I thought, this is the place for me!

Heritage & Projects Manager Katie

My role varies from supporting daily operations, managing events, and coordinating volunteers to delivering heritage and community activities.

What I love about the Guildhall is that it isn’t simply a historic building to be preserved, it is a living part of the community that has been at the heart of Bury for centuries, and I love being part of its continuing story.

One of my favourite moments so far has been curating the Love and War in Suffolk exhibition which reminded me why I love heritage: ultimately, it is about people, their stories and connecting with the past.

Marketing Officer Rowan

I run the social media sites and marketing for the Guildhall and assist with events.

What draws me most to the Guildhall is that it is a tangible link to 800-years of history, that people can still access on both Open Days and events. I love getting to tell visitors some of the stories of the people of the Guildhall, mainly the dramatic court cases!

A stand-out moment for me at the Guildhall was getting the amazing opportunity to co-write ‘The Guildhall Bury St Edmunds’, I’ll never forget the feeling of seeing the published book for the first time!

Guildhall Bar Services Rob

I manage the bar for events at the Guildhall, and make the place come to life with a fine selection of wines, beers and cocktails.

The event side of the Guildhall has grown significantly since I joined, and I spend most weekends there these days! Everyone that visits falls in love with this historic building as I have done and I enjoy meeting so many local people that choose this venue for so many different events.

A standout moment at The Guildhall for me has to be the inebriated squirrels eating the fermenting pears and sitting on the guests’ shoulders!!!

Front of House Team

Our incredible Front of House team, headed up by Amanda and Rob, are here to make sure your event runs smoothly from start to finish.

These friendly faces are here to welcome you through the doors, help with anything you need throughout the day and make sure everything and everyone is where they need to be. With a keen eye for detail and the ability to jump in when the unexpected happens our team are always ready for anything!

Their hard work behind the scenes helps ensure a warm, welcoming experience leaving you and your guests with incredible memories of your time at The Guildhall.
