Helen M Stevens, Society of Women Artists

Helen’s pure silk and precious metal embroideries are in collections worldwide, including the Palace of Westminster collection, The Camberley Brown in Louisville and the San Francisco Museum of Needlework and Design. She has also exhibited at Olympic Park, Australia, The Mall Galleries, Westminster Hall and the British Museum.

“I would like to use my participation in this exhibition to explore the dichotomy between the Guildhall and the Abbey, focussing on their alternative attitudes to women and to the art of healing – using the symbolism of flora and fauna. Work will include pieces in both contemporary and archaic interpretations and techniques including examples of the styles which I explored when working with the British Museum and the North European Symposium for Archaeological Textiles on late Anglo Saxon and early Norman embroidery.”
