The role

Learning at The Guildhall spans all ages from our early years toddler groups right up to U3A events. You’ll be on the front line with school group activities – sometimes in costume.

Help lead dramatic and creative workshops in the Courtroom or Tudor Kitchen with Primary School children.

Give lively talks to adult groups, with an informative, story-telling style – and maybe dress up as historic characters at times.

You’ll be keen to share your knowledge and always be learning more from fellow volunteers.

Perhaps you enjoy planning activities with the Learning Coordinator and preparing resources for use? Everything from making fake ‘oakum’ and preparing salt dough to designing quizzes and worksheets can be part of your role. Ensuring craft materials are ready for use is a vital role, especially before big workshops and open weekends.

What could I be doing?

You might be in costume demonstrating an historic skill to school children or you could be explaining the Royal Observer Corps activities to a group of American visitors. You will certainly be sharing your love of history with lively delivery and passion, to our visitors.

What might a typical day involve?

On a busy day in the learning department, you could help with one or more of the following:
• Help set up a World War II activity session for the Primary School who are visiting.
• Dress up as a Court Usher and help lead a drama session for the children in the Courtroom – discussing and enacting real cases.
• Dress up as a Tudor cook and demonstrate bread making in the Tudor Kitchen on a Family Open day.
• Help prepare some craft materials for a children’s holiday activity.
