Your Guildhall. Your time.
Two precious things.

Volunteering at the Guildhall will offer you a chance to get involved in a way that suits your time, your skills and your love of Bury’s past. Discover and share our heritage. Meet new friends. Gain new skills and put your spare time and experience to good use.

Here’s what we have planned starting from now! What could we achieve together?

Behind the Scenes Team

We have roles for volunteers to help us get the show on the road.

We have roles for volunteers to help set up the Learning and Costumed Teams and to help us plan for recruitment of more volunteers. Later, we’ll be needing costume assistants, administrators and marketing help. Whatever your experience and time available, we’d love to find the bespoke role just for you.

Visitor Welcome Team

You’ll have an out-going nature, be calm and organised with a ready smile. As the first point of contact, our visitors need you to know what’s happening and when. You’ll give them their initial orientation -sometimes in costume- take admissions, greet visiting groups and field the daily enquiries.

Costumed Team

Love to get immersed? Bit of a closet thesp? Take a role of monk, merchant, spinner, lawyer, cook or bottlewasher and step into the past. We’ll kit you out with historically accurate costume, give you training in presentation and historic skills to interpret the building and its past. You’ll be great at absorbing information and sharing it with our visitors in role-play and participatory sessions, leading them through our beautiful building.

Learning Team

You’ll have a way of communicating which draws people in and an infectious enthusiasm for history. You’ll enjoy the company of folks with enquiring minds (young and old) and be happy to lead group sessions – with plenty of support from us to get you going. Tours, workshops, school sessions and group visits – sometimes in costume; could you help us inspire our visitors?
