Tutor Rosemary Dodgson is a professional artist who lives in Cambridge and has tutored many workshops.

Focusing on the use of paint, the day will provide a selection of plant materials for you to use to start to create your own plant portraits – be that just one perfect leaf or something more extensive.

Throughout the day the tutor will be aiming to respond to the painting needs and hopes of each of the participants.

The day will include demonstrations of various techniques (e.g. wet in wet, dry brush and layering techniques) and one to one tuition according to the needs of the participants.

The overall structure is designed to enable you to do at least one of the following:

  • identify the type of picture you would like to be painting and take a step or two further towards creating that picture
  • to try out different watercolour techniques
  • to refine your current techniques
  • understand more about watercolour pigments and how they react with each other and the paper you are using.
  • pick up painting again – even if you haven’t done any for years or even since school!
  • explore the challenges that you think you have using watercolour and identify possible solutions to these, including how to address errors.
  • Above all to have fun during the day and to experience the joy of painting together.
